Eloptic Energy Theory (Hieronymus)

T. Galen Hieronymus claimed a previously unknown energy — 'eloptic', behaving partly like electricity and partly like light — radiates from all matter, can be refracted by prisms, conducted along wires, amplified by vacuum-tube circuits, and detected through the tactile 'stick' of a rubbing plate; his 1949 US patent describes apparatus for its detection and measurement.

What it claims

  • All materials emit 'eloptic' emanations that are neither electromagnetic nor corpuscular but exhibit properties of both electricity and light.
  • Eloptic emanations can be refracted by a prism and the refraction angle identifies the element — the basis of the patent's analyzer.
  • A trained operator senses resonance as a change in the feel of the detector plate (the stick).

Proposed mechanism: Matter-specific fine emanations conducted through circuits and tuned by capacitance; the operator's nervous system serves as the final detector.

The mainstream view

No eloptic energy has ever been detected by an independent instrument. Lee Hite's engineering tear-down of the patented circuit found it generates a 60 Hz-pulsed RF artifact, that the tactile plate sensation is explainable by low-power RF on the plate surface, that prominent dials were not functionally connected, and that the patent's wording obscures rather than enables reproduction — concluding deliberate deception. The 'detection' reduces to operator ideomotor and tactile suggestion.

  • The patented device's dial settings are dummy controls; readout shifts trace to the operator's own body capacitance and arm position.
  • John W. Campbell's symbolic experiments — the machine 'working' with the circuit replaced by its paper diagram — undercut any physical-energy reading of the device.
